Nick Web, Director of Risk Management at Ryerson - "Revenge of the Old Economy"


Nick Web is the Director of Risk Management for Ryerson, where he manages market risks linked to commodities, interest rates, and foreign exchange products. Prior to this, Nick spent almost a decade as a commodity broker at Wells Fargo, Newedge, and Jefferies, where he structured trading and hedging solutions for miners, mills, distributors, end users, and hedge funds. He also started the ferrous brokerage desks at all three firms before joining Ryerson. Nick earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from The Ohio State University, with a major in finance and a minor in economics. He also holds a FINRA Series 3 Commodities License.

Michael Cowden, Steel Market - "State of the Steel Industry"


 

 

Michael Cowden is managing editor for Steel Market Update (SMU). Cowden has covered the steel industry since 2007. He has since 2014 specialized in flat-rolled steel but has previously reported on steel long products, steel pipe and tube as well as aluminum. Before joining SMU, Cowden held reporting jobs at Fastmarkets AMM in Chicago - where he was involved in launching AMM's daily hot-rolled coil index, the Associated Press in Pittsburgh, and the Cambodia Daily in Phnom Penh. He has also worked as a copy editor and in marketing at the University of Chicago Press. Cowden has a BA in English from the University of Chicago and an MSJ from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

Victoria Morton, Nucor Sustainability Engineer - "Sustainabilit and Steel - How Buy Clean Legislation is Changing How Steel is Used"


Victoria Morton has an environmental background. She has 13 years of experience in the environmental field,  including 11 years in the steel industry working for both integrated and EAF steel manufacturers. Over that time she has supported numerous steel facilities with various environmental activities including regulatory reporting, permitting, and sustainability. She now focuses exclusively on Nucor's environmental sustainability program including reporting and initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the organization. 

Victoria graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and obtained a Masters of both Environmental Management and Engineering Management from Duke University.

Robert Spendlove, Utah State Representative and Senior Economist of Zion Banks - "An Economy in Transition"


Robert is the Senior Economist for Zions Bank. In this capacity, he monitors and reports on economic indicators and public policy developments for the bank. Founded in 1873, Zions Bank is Uta's oldest financial institution. It is a division of Zions Bancorporation, which is one of the nation's premier financial services companies and operates under seven separately managed and distinct brands throughout much of the western United States.

Robert's research interests are primarily in the areas of macroeconomics, demographics, financial markets and public policy. He frequently advises and briefs policymakers, as well as business and civic groups throughout the United States. He is also regularly called on to give expert analysis in the media, through print, radio, and television. He is known for his insightful and understandable approach to explaining economic trends.
